Health Care Fight Not Over Yet (March 2010) PDF Print

It’s a historic and critically important time in our nation’s capital. The House of Representatives is poised to vote tomorrow (Sunday) on the Democrats’ government takeover of health care. Tens of thousands of people traveled to Washington, D.C. today to let their voices be heard and to say no to socialized medicine. I had the pleasure of talking to many of these patriotic Americans and thanked them for doing their part to stand up for our freedoms. There is an incredible amount of frustration among the American people that Washington is simply not listening to them. Despite strong opposition to government control of our health care system; to the trillions in new entitlement spending contained in this bill; to the hundreds of billions in job killing tax increases; and to government decision making that will ultimately mean rationed care, President Obama and Nancy Pelosi are working this weekend to coerce enough of their Democratic colleagues and steamroll this legislation through the House of Representatives on a partisan vote. However, this debate is not over, and the tens of thousands of Americans who had their voices heard in Washington today, and those who are making their voices heard through phone calls and e-mails to their members of Congress, are making a difference. In fact, reports from earlier today indicate that Democrat Leaders have abandoned the “Slaughter Solution,” a scheme that would have allowed Democrat Leadership to “deem” their government takeover bill passed without a vote. This was a victory for the American people who want a straight up-or-down vote. If we can stop the “deem scheme,” we can stop this bill.
