Victory for the 2nd Amendment in Our National Parks (March 2010) PDF Print

As you may recall, Congress took action last year to repeal the ban on firearms in our national parks. This common sense legislation was a victory for gun owners because it removed the unnecessary disparity between federal regulations for gun possession on federal lands. I’m pleased to tell you that this new law went into effect last week, and I wanted to share some information that may answer any questions about its implementation.

As of February 22, national parks are subject to the firearms laws of the state (or states) where the park is located. Visitors need to be mindful of which state’s law applies in national parks that are located in more than one state. If you have questions about what law applies, the best place to look for information is on the individual website of the national park you intend to visit. The NPS has include links to state firearms laws on their websites to help visitors understand the law and plan accordingly. For further information about the new law, please visit the NPS website and review their press release on the matter here.

I believe this new law bolsters the Second Amendment and I will continue to support efforts like this that upholds the individual right to bear arms for every American.
