Moving Terror Suspects to U.S. Soil Dangerous to Safety of Americans (December 2009) PDF Print

This week President Obama announced a plan to transfer dozens of terrorists held at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility to a prison in Thomson, Illinois. I am strongly opposed to the President’s decision to move terrorist detainees to United States soil because it endangers the safety and security of American citizens. Over the course of the past year the President has ignored the will of the American people repeatedly in his efforts to close Guantanamo Bay. This decision will do nothing to make us safer and instead places an additional target right in the heartland of America. It will help ensure that foreign terror suspects will have access to U.S. Constitutional protections, the latest sign that the Obama Administration views jihadists as criminals rather than militants at war with America. I call on President Obama to put the safety of all Americans first and rescind this deeply concerning order.
