Health Care Hearing on MedPAC Report (March 2009) PDF Print
Knowing of your interest in health care issues, I wanted to take the opportunity to let you know about a Ways & Means Health Subcommittee hearing on the annual MedPAC report to Congress.  MedPAC is a commission that makes recommendations to Congress on Medicare payment policies.  Before we started the hearing, I recorded a short video, available here, regarding the hearing and the issues of fraud and abuse facing Medicare.  As the Ranking Member, I delivered the opening statement and I was able to question the Chairman of MedPAC, Glenn Hackbarth about problems in the Medicare system.  He acknowledged that there are serious concerns regarding the payment structure and ongoing fraud.  This is a strong and clear illustration as to why further government-run health care will encourage inefficiency and a decline in quality.  I will continue to follow this issue closely so that we maintain the integrity of Medicare's purpose, providing quality healthcare to seniors.
