Washington D.C. – Congressman Wally Herger (R-CA) released the following statement after House Republicans presented A Pledge to America, a new governing agenda focused on addressing the American people’s top priorities. The Pledge is the culmination of a months-long engagement with the American people, known as America Speaking Out, in which House Republicans sought their ideas and priorities for Congress. The agenda offers concrete solutions that can be implemented immediately to tackle the issues that are most important to the nation, including job creation, spending restraint, national security, health care, and reform to Congress itself.

“Wherever I go in the North State, people are telling me that they’re worried about the direction of our nation. They tell me that they believe that the current agenda in Washington is filled with misguided priorities, out-of-control spending, and policies that are killing jobs across America. These fears are based in the strong belief that Washington has ignored the wishes and will of the American people. North State residents want fiscal responsibility and policies that will create jobs and restore our economy. President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and Congressional Democrats have pursued an ideological platform that is far outside the wishes of Main Street. However, I, along with my fellow House Republicans have been listening. We launched America Speaking Out and held hundreds of events across the country to make sure that we knew exactly what Americans’ priorities were for a new governing agenda. This is why we are offering A Pledge to America. With this pledge we are presenting a set of bold solutions approved by the American people and a commitment to uphold the principles that have made this nation so great.

“A Pledge to America will provide concrete plans to create jobs, to halt the looming tax increases on American families and small businesses, to rein in our massive budget deficit and cut spending, and to ensure America’s safety from both threats overseas as well as on our own borders. We are offering a plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare that is very similar to legislation that I offered earlier this year. In the numerous meetings I have held throughout Northern California, people consistently told me that we need to change the way Washington does business. Speaker Pelosi and President Obama swept into office on a mantle of change, but under their leadership, things have only become more secretive and partisan. We commit to an open, honest debate of every bill that comes before the House. America was founded on the principle of a government bound by the will of the people. That ideal has been ignored for far too long and I pledge to join House Republicans in fighting for these solutions before our nation is subjected to any more damaging effects of the Obama-Pelosi agenda. It’s time that the American people take back their government and I will do everything in my power to make that a reality.”
