WASHINGTON, DC – Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt today issued the following statement on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks:
“Today, despite the horrific acts of that terrible day nine years ago, Americans still have faith in the power of freedom, courage even as we face adversity in the global war on terror, and support for our troops as they work to bring peace and stability to areas of the world once ruled by oppression and fear.
“Along with the thousands who died on 9/11, many brave American servicemen and women have made the ultimate sacrifice over the past nine years. America salutes their courage, their patriotism, and their sacrifice.
“We must not forget and we must not relent. The most fitting tribute to the fallen is to continue supporting the efforts of so many to stabilize and create opportunity in areas of the world that have faced the most violent extremist ideologies. The terrorists who hate the United States because of the ideals for which we stand still pose a grave threat, and our efforts to overcome these threats are far from complete.
“Today, we pause to honor and remember. We must never forget.”
