Sam Johnson:
It’s time to get our fiscal house in order once and for all!

Washington, Jun 9 -

Today U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson (3rd Dist.-Texas) urged fiscal restraint in the wake of unprecedented debt levels sparked by unbridled government spending over the last two years.

Last week marked an ominous milestone in our nation’s fiscal history when the Obama Administration announced that the U.S. debt hit a record $13 trillion.  By the end of the year the U.S debt is expected to nearly equal the size of the U.S. economy, a level economic experts warn can threaten economic growth.  That same day the Administration announced that of the 431,000 jobs created in the last month, only 41,000 were in the private sector, due to massive temporary Census Bureau hiring.

Johnson’s prepared statement follows:

“A recent Gallup poll showed 79% of Americans now view the federal debt as a serious threat to the ‘future well being’ of the country.

“It’s no wonder because the Administration just announced that the nation’s debt will reach 93% of GDP this year – a new high.  Economic experts predict that unprecedented debt level could squash at least 1 million jobs.  The news came the same day the Labor Department reported that nearly all of the new jobs were temporary hires at the Census – and some re-hires at the bureau.

“Make no mistake, the out-of-control government spending coupled with the heavy debt prevent us from creating the quality jobs and the bright future Americans want, need and deserve.  It’s time to get our fiscal house in order once and for all.  The stimulus. The bailouts. Government run healthcare.  Enough is enough.
