2nd Amendment

The Second Amendment grants law-abiding Americans the right to keep and bear arms and I have constantly supported the Second Amendment throughout my time in office.

The Supreme Court of the United States ruled the 1976 D.C. gun ban unconstitutional in the case of The District of Columbia v. Heller.  I consider that a huge victory for Americans and the Constitution.  The ability to keep and bear arms is a fundamental right that our Founding Fathers created for law-abiding citizens. 

I am thankful that President Bush appointed common-sense conservative judges to the highest court in the land who do not kowtow to the politically correct movement of the moment or consider it their job to make new laws.

In addition, the razor-thin majority of the 5-4 vote demonstrated that the Second Amendment was one Supreme Court Justice away from extinction for the residents of D.C.  I vow to do anything and everything possible to ensure the legacy of hunting, the majesty of sportsmanship and the right to protection.

I oppose new legislation in Congress, H.R. 45, The Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009.  The Act would create a national gun owners registry and require licensing for anybody who owns a gun.  It would require photographs and a thumbprint.

The measure directs the Attorney General to: (1) establish and maintain a firearm injury information clearinghouse; (2) conduct continuing studies and investigations of firearm-related deaths and injuries; and (3) collect and maintain current production and sales figures of each licensed manufacturer.

Let me be clear – I strongly oppose H.R. 45 and will continue to take a stand to preserve the Second Amendment.
