“A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces, but also by the men it honors, the men it remembers.” – President John F. Kennedy A couple of years ago, I wrote an editorial titled The Vanishing Generation about a man named Frank Buckles who was creating history as the last veteran of World War I. In that editorial, I talked about the importance of honoring our nation’s veterans and the importance of preserving their invaluable stories. You can read that editorial here. Now two years later - as Frank Buckles celebrated his 109th birthday on February 1, 2010 - I am proud to cosponsor a resolution, H.Res.1060, congratulating him as America’s last surviving WWI veteran. Visit the Veterans History Project to learn about other ways we can honor our nation’s finest men and women in uniform.
