Defending the National Day of Prayer
Posted by Randy | April 26, 2010

Yesterday morning I appeared on CNN's "Faces of Faith" to defend the National Day of Prayer in light of a federal judge ruling that it was unconstitutional. In the segment, I discussed the issue with the president of the group that brought the lawsuit challenging the National Day of Prayer, the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Watch our discussion in the clip below:

Thank you for defending such an important day for so many! The one thing our country could use more of is being declared "unconstitutional"....what a sad, sad day! ---- Johanna Lasserton www.zipboxmedia.com

You used the Declaration of Independence as an example of why prayer is Constitutional. That document says "Laws of Nature and of Nature's God" not a Judeo-Christian type of god. It was well before the Constitution and Bill of Rights that separated government and religion. You seem not to respect the Constitution. Judge Crabb's ruling is informative and thorough. Please read it. http://ffrf.org/uploads/legal/SummaryJudgementGeitner.PDF

I'm not sure I understand the importance of this issue. When the Bible commands to "pray without ceasing" and Jesus instructs his followers to pray in private vs. the pious leaders who loved to pray in front of others, I've always believed that people can pray silently at all times and in all places. Why do we have to "nationalize" such a private process between man and his supreme being?
