The objective of the Consortium is to enhance the collaboration between the fishing industry and science to seek solutions to the bycatch of non-commercial wildlife species and to promote sustainable fishing practices. It is a valuable use of taxpayer funds as it will help achieve numerous federal policy objectives and statutory mandates to protect threatened and endangered species of marine animals.
