Massport and the Army Corps have been working together since 2000 to evaluate and advance the Boston Harbor Deep Draft Navigation Improvement Project, which will deepen the federal navigation serving the Conley Container Terminal to between 45 and 50 feet. The requested funding for FY11 will enable us to complete the feasibility study and proceed with the planning, engineering and design (PED) phase of the project. Implementation of Navigation improvements to deepen portions of Boston Harbor would increase the efficiency of harbor operations and reduce tidal delays for larger vessels.
