Brian Announces Transportation Funding for Southwest Washington (March 5, 2009)

Washington, D.C.- Congressman Brian Baird today announced $9.2 million in federal economic recovery funding will be invested into transit projects in Southwest Washington.

The funds will be distributed from the Federal Transit Administration which released the funding today through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. It was signed into law on February 17th and includes $8.4 billion nationwide for public transportation. Washington State will receive approximately $179 million to distribute to local agencies.

The money will be distributed as follows:

  • C-TRAN in Clark County
    • $5.8 million to purchase new buses, performed needed maintenance, upgrade the radio system, improve the customer service phone system and expand the security surveillance system.
  • CUBS in Cowlitz County
    • $1.12 million to purchase new busses to meet growing needs it expands its bus service area.
  • Intercity Transit in Thurston County
    • $2.3 million to purchase new energy efficient hybrid busses.
