Baird Announces $82K to Promote Local Businesses (October 9, 2009)

Washington, D.C. -   Today, Congressman Brian Baird (D-WA-03) announced $82,000 in federal funding is coming to Southwest Washington to help promote local businesses on the White Pass Scenic Byway.  The money comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

"The White Pass Scenic Byway is one of Washington State's premier wildlife viewing destinations," said Congressman Baird.  "These new signs all along the byway will help draw new people to the area, and provide an economic boost to the local businesses who cater to them."

The signs will be designed to meet the guidelines developed in the byway Corridor Management Plan. Types of services identified will include visitor centers, food and lodging, major recreation destinations, auto-related services, and similar traveler needs. Services will be identified as generic categories, rather than by naming individual businesses. The project anticipates installation of about 40 signs, some on new supports and others using existing sign supports, utility poles or other appropriate supports.
