Child Safety
Our children are our future. While parents are primarily responsible for the upbringing of their children, there are some things we can do so that the most vulnerable do not fall through the cracks. It is imperative that law enforcement and the media have the tools to react quickly and to get the word out to our communities when children are abducted. That is why I co-sponsored and strongly supported a national AMBER Alert system, which is now law. Another area of concern for parents is the Internet. Congress has passed "Dot Kids" legislation to create a safe environment for our children to learn and explore on the Internet. Much like a children's section of the library, this bill creates a place with in the United States domain - kids.us - for children under the age of 13. This new domain will be a haven for material that promotes positive experiences for children and families using the Internet.
