Kildee Announces Nearly $3 Million in Stimulus Funds for Saginaw Transit Authority

Funding will replace old buses and support renovation of Rosa Parks Operation Center

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that the Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) has been awarded $2,996,932 in stimulus funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This legislation passed the House of Representatives on February 13, 2009 with Congressman Kildee’s strong support and became law on February 17, 2009.

“I am very pleased that I was able to help bring this important funding to Saginaw.  Public transportation provides an important service to our community, and many families rely on our bus system to access services and facilities on a daily basis.  This funding will help ensure that our communities can continue to depend on reliable, public transportation for years to come,” said Congressman Kildee.

Funding will allow STARS to replace five 35ft. biodiesel buses which have reached the end of their useful life. It will also provide for an addition and renovations to the Rosa Parks Operation Center.

This year, Congressman Kildee secured $500,000 for STARS in H.R. 3288, the Department of Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which passed the House of Representatives on July 23, 2009. This legislation now awaits consideration by the U.S. Senate. The $2,996,932 in stimulus funding awarded to STARS under the Recovery and Reinvestment Act requires no further action.

Since FY 2004, Congressman Kildee has secured a total of $2,180,000 for STARS.
