We need to streamline the process for citizens to volunteer in our Public Schools. PTAs are not the answer for all volunteer activities. Very few schools have setup and organize programs where citizen can sign up to volunteer. There are many reasons for this - Child Safety, Union rules, cost etc. all of which deter schools from actively soliciting for volunteers. We need to develop best practices of volunteerism in our schools. This can be a resource where districts can turn to find programs that can be adopted and implement with minimal cost and deliver improvements in educational outcomes. We need a clearing house where citizens can signup to help and then be linked to volunteer opportunities in the schools.
