WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the City of Carbondale has received a $44,463 Secure Our Schools (SOS) program grant through the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program of the U.S. Department of Justice. The SOS program focuses on improving safety by preventing school violence in and around schools.
“As a strong supporter of the federal community policing program, I am pleased that these funds are going to our area,” said Costello, a former law enforcement officer. “Increased law enforcement resources have proven to be an important factor in reducing crime in our region and nationwide, and it is critical to provide a safe learning environment so that students can reach their full academic potential.”
