WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) lauded House passage of H.R. 2039, the Congressional Made in America Promise Act, which requires Congress to buy goods and services made in America. The bill is part of a broader “Make it in America” initiative to boost the U.S. manufacturing industry and create new American jobs.
The legislation now moves to the U.S. Senate for consideration. Costello, a member of the Congressional Manufacturing Caucus and the Congressional Buy American Caucus, has previously supported “Buy American” provisions for the federal government, including last year’s inclusion of a “Buy American” provision for the use of U.S. steel in the economic stimulus bill.
“Using American-made products is the right thing to do, and particularly at a time when our economy is still recovering,” said Costello. “This will energize our manufacturing sector and maintain and create new jobs here in the United States.”
