WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the Madison Fire Department and the Belleville Fire Department have both received a grant – in the amount of $58,651 to Madison and $685,520 to Belleville – through the Assistance to Firefighters program of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Both grants will be used for operations and safety improvements.
The Belleville Fire Department’s award is a regional grant to supply radio equipment to a number of different organizations within the region. Costello cosponsored the legislation that created the Assistance to Firefighters program.
“These awards will enhance fire protection services and keep our communities safe,” said Costello. “The Assistance to Firefighters program has provided significant support for departments across our nation and within our region, and I will continue to support this important resource.”
