WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the Village of Freeman Spur and the City of Hurst have both received grants – in the amount of $15,688 for Freeman Spur and $8,400 for Hurst – from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Rural Development.
Freeman Spur received an economic impact initiative grant, which will be used to replace three sewer pumps. Freeman Spur has contributed $5,230 of its own funds to the project.
Hurst received a community facility grant, which will be used to update the police department’s security system – including a security door, lock, cameras and radar unit. Hurst has contributed $2,800 of its own funds to this project.
“These are important projects for Southern Illinois,” said Costello. “Our area and our nation have serious water and other infrastructure needs, and I will continue to work to make this funding a priority of the federal budget.”
