Red Bud, IL - On Monday, June 21, 2010, U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) presented a check representing grant funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security at a ceremony held at the Red Bud Fire Department.
The mock check, in the amount of $372,591, represents an Assistance to Firefighters Grant. This is a regional grant, shared by 11 different fire departments throughout Randolph County and will be used to provide improved communications and increased interoperability throughout the county for daily operations, mutual aid response and firefighter safety.
The departments that will share in this funding include: Baldwin, Chester, Coulterville, Ellis Grove, Evansville, Percy, Prairie du Rocher, Red Bud, Sparta, Steeleville and Tilden.
The Assistance to Firefighters Program is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The program seeks to enhance the ability of local fire departments to respond to fire and fire-related hazards in their communities. Congressman Costello cosponsored the legislation that created the Assistance to Firefighters program.
