County History and Information:
Wilson County was established on October 26, 1799 and named for Major David Wilson, a North Carolina hero of the American Revolution. William Haskell Neal developed Neal's Paymaster corn in Wilson County, and button clover was also discovered in the County. The Cracker Barrell restaurant chain originated in Wilson County. The Nashville Super Speedway, the second largest race track in the state, is located in Wilson County. Sam Houston began his political career in Wilson County and W.E.B. Du Bois began his teaching career in Wilson County.
