DeKalb County

County History and Information:
Dekalb County was established in 1837 and named after Johann Dekalb, a German general who died during the American Revolution. During the Civil War, the Battle of Snow Hill occurred on April 3, 1863 in the town of Liberty. Dekalb County is known for the Fiddlers’ Jamoboree and Craft Festival, a two-day festival of Appalachian crafts, music and dance. 80,000 people attend the festival every year. Dekalb County is also recognized as the Nursery Plant Capital of the World.
