Bedford County

County History and Information:
Bedford County was created in 1807 and named after Revolutionary War officer Thomas Bedford, a landowner in the area.  During the Civil War, Union soldiers frequently tried to take the county seat of Shelbyville, but were met with large Confederate resistance.  Bedford County is the home to the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration.  The Tennessee Walking Horse is a three gaited horse that does a flat-foot walk, running walk and canter.
