Bennett Opposes Financial Regulatory Reform Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Bob Bennett (R-Utah) issued the following statement this evening after voting against the financial regulatory reform legislation:

"This bill is a far cry from what Americans need. Americans need a bill that protects taxpayers and prevents the type of financial crisis we experienced in 2008.

"We need greater limitations on the federal government; not greater intervention in the marketplace. We need to let markets decide winners and losers, not Washington.

"This bill was rushed through haphazardly without thoroughly examining the lessons we have learned. The intent of financial regulatory reform was to rein in Wall Street and prevent another financial crisis; the outcome is a flawed bill that increases government overreach and puts taxpayers at risk."
