Dreier Statement on President’s FY 2011 Budget
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas, CA), House Rules Committee Ranking Republican, issued the following statement today regarding the submission of President Obama’s FY 2011 budget:
“The $3.8 trillion budget put forth by President Obama today is more of the same – more spending, more debt, more taxes, and little assistance to help our struggling economy. His proposal would freeze just thirteen percent of the budget, and not until next year. While this is an important first step, it is not nearly enough to bring the deficit under control. In fact, it never falls below $700 billion over the ten year span of this budget plan. It also turns a blind eye to the impending entitlement crisis, creating a new healthcare entitlement costing $1 trillion. This is all in the same week that the House will be considering a $1.9 trillion increase to the debt limit. We need to do more now, not next year, to get our fiscal house in order.
“While I am pleased that the President is proposing to reduce the tax burden on small businesses, more needs to be done to immediately boost the economy, create jobs, and reduce the debt. I also believe we should increase access to affordable healthcare, but that we need to do it in a fiscally responsible way. I look forward to working with the President on these important issues.”
