Kucinich Hails NASA Authorization Bill As “Huge Success” For NASA Glenn And Cleveland-Area

Bill, Expected Before The House Today, Will Freeze Any Reduction In Force At NASA Glenn Facility

Washington, Dec 17 -

Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) called the NASA Authorization Act of 2005 a huge success for NASA Glenn and a big victory for the Ohio delegation.

Every since the Administration’s budget came out in February calling for big cuts in aeronautics funding, Kucinich has led an effort at the local, state and federal level to ensure the NASA Glenn Research facility budget and staff were protected. Kucinich met with NASA officials, lobbied his Congressional colleagues and brought together a bipartisan statewide coalition to protect NASA Glenn.

The NASA Authorization Act of 2005, expected to pass the House today, rejects any involuntary reduction of force until at least March 2007, rejects the Administration’s funding reductions for aeronautics, and requires NASA to chart a clear course forward for aeronautics.

“This is a huge success for NASA Glenn and the Cleveland-area, and a big victory for the Ohio Congressional delegation,” stated Kucinich. “NASA Glenn is a premier research facility. Thanks to our efforts, this bill helps ensure that Glenn will remain an important part of NASA’s long-term plans. This is great news for NASA Glenn and our whole community.”
