Kucinich On House Floor: “Whoever Has Been Writing The President’s Speeches Owes Him An Apology”
Washington,
Dec 8, 2005 -
Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) gave the following speech today on the House floor:
“Yesterday, the President gave another so-called ‘major address’ on his plan for success in Iraq.
“In Najaf, cited by the President yesterday as a success, security is not being provided by Iraqi forced trained by the United States but by the militia led by radical Shiite leader Moqtada al-Sadr.
“In Mosul, the President said 50% of the people voted. But, 56% of those who voted rejected the Iraqi Constitution the Bush Administration was promoting.
“On May 1, 2003, the President stood on the deck of an aircraft carrier and gave his ‘Mission Accomplished’ speech. Last week, the President gave his ‘Secret Plan for Victory’ speech. Yesterday, the President gave his ‘Making Progress in Iraq’ speech.
“I think I know the problem here. Whoever has been writing the President’s speeches owes him an apology. They badly mixed up the sequence over the last few years. First he should have given his ‘Plan for Victory’ speech, then his ‘Making Progress’ speech, and then his ‘Mission Accomplished’ speech.
“I have here a copy of his get out of Iraq speech.” [Kucinich holds up a blank piece of paper]
