Legislation Description
Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act (H.R. 11), introduced by Representative George Miller, rectifies a Supreme Court ruling that made it harder for Americans to pursue discrimination claims. The bill clarifies that every paycheck or other compensation resulting from an earlier discriminatory pay decision constitutes a violation of the Civil Rights Act.  As long as workers file their charges within 180 days of a discriminatory paycheck, their charges would be considered timely.
Emergency Aid to American Survivors of the Haiti Earthquake Act The Emergency Aid to American Survivors of the Haiti Earthquake Act (S. 2949), provides crucial assistance to American survivors of the earthquake in Haiti.  The bill raises the cap on the U.S.
Social Security Disability Applicants’ Access to Professional Representation Act The Social Security Disability Applicants’ Access to Professional Representation Act (H.R. 4532), introduced by Representative John Tanner, would make permanent a provision increasing access to professional representation for disability claimants, especially the most impoverished ones.
Statutory PAYGO Statutory PAYGO (H.J.Res. 45) would require that new legislation affecting mandatory spending or tax revenue be "budget neutral," or more specifically, that it not increase the deficit. The Statutory PAYGO rule would be enforced through sequestration – or automatic, across-the-board spending cuts.
Insurance Industry Fair Competition Act The Insurance Industry Fair Competition Act (H.R. 4626), introduced by Representative Tom Perriello and Representative Betsy Markey, would hold the health insurance industry accountable under America’s fair competition laws by removing it from the McCarran-Ferguson Act’s special blanket antitrust exemption for the business of insurance.
Billy’s Law The Help Find the Missing Act (H.R. 3695), also known as “Billy’s Law,” introduced by Representative Chris Murphy, would secure funding for the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), the only federal missing persons and unidentified remains database that can be cross-searched, accessed and added to by the public.
