Cleveland Resident to Receive National Crime Prevention Council's Awards of Excellence in Crime Prevention
Louis Paisley One of Eight Recipients Nationally
Washington,
Sep 27, 2000 -
The National Crime Prevention Council, a national advocacy organization, has selected Cleveland resident Louis Paisley as one of eight recipients of the fourth annual Awards of Excellence in Crime Prevention. Paisley will be honored at the group's National Conference in Washington, DC on Thursday, September 28, 2000; he is also scheduled to meet with Congressman Dennis Kucinich during a visit to Capitol Hill.
According to information provided by the National Crime Prevention Council:
"When Louis Paisley became President of the Cleveland Bar Association, he recognized a civic obligation to tackle crime in Cleveland, which has ranked among the nation's top five deadliest cities. Louis established a Bar committee to look at possible solutions. The committee became a task force, and emerged into Partnership for a Safer Cleveland -- an organization which today enlists a wide range of groups in a wide range of crime prevention efforts. Louis has helped the Partnership develop operating relationships with and among the police, the schools, the business community, and the courts. He championed public education against violence though public service advertising and produced a guide to ending gang violence. Young Ladies' and Young Gentlemen's Clubs in many of Cleveland's elementary schools have incorporated the Partnership's methods, and have demonstrated great success in reducing violence and conflicts, and enhancing social skills, improving attendance and grades, and reducing classroom disruptions."
