IRAQ WAR VETERAN JOINS HARMAN STAFF

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Jane Harman (D-Venice) welcomed SSgt. (ret.) Ernesto Gutierrez to her staff as a Caseworker.  Gutierrez, a 13-year veteran of the Marine Corps who served two tours in Iraq, was wounded by a roadside bomb in 2006.  He comes to the Congresswoman’s district office though a fellowship with the Wounded Warrior Project, which helps injured veterans transition into civilian life.

“Never in a thousand years did I think I’d end up here,” said Gutierrez. “When I was in the Corps, we learned to take care of your Marines.  I’m excited for an opportunity to continue looking out for people here at home.”

A California native Gutierrez, will serve as a liaison between Rep. Harman’s office and various veterans’ groups in the District.  He will also respond to requests from veterans and other constituents, helping them to interact with federal agencies.

“I’m thrilled that Sergeant Gutierrez is a part of Team Harman,” said Harman.  “Beyond his experiences as a veteran, Ernesto has a winning personality that will enable him to really connect with people in the District.”
