Was Israel’s security needs influenced by the US calendar?

Washington, Jan 22 -

Congressman Kucinich (D-OH) this morning made the following statement question the timing of the Israeli attacks in Gaza and calling for the new administration and Congress to work for security and peace in the Middle East:

“Was Israel’s security needs influenced by the US calendar? Between the Christmas season and the inauguration, Israel’s attack on Gaza, which killed over 1300 Palestinians, many of them women and children, with U.S. planes, helicopters, white phosphorous and Congressional support caused over $2 billion worth of destruction.

“Now that this holiday war against Gaza is over, let our new administration and Congress work for the security of peace for both the Israelis and the Palestinians. Let us support full restoration of humanitarian aid and the reconstruction of Gaza.  Let us support an end to the blockade, an enforceable ceasefire and an adherence to international law by both Israel and Hamas.

“It is time to work for peace in the Middle East through the rule of law, not the rule of arms: through diplomacy, not force.”
