Kucinich: Diebold Knew Of Flaws In Voting Software And Advised Employees To Misrepresent Them
Adds New Material To Section Of Website Dedicated To Problems With Electronic Voting

Washington, Dec 2, 2003 - Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH), Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, continued his public campaign to highlight the problems with election systems giant Diebold by adding a new section to his voting rights website that demonstrates that Diebold knew of significant problems with its voting systems and advised employees to misrepresent the problems.

On November 20th, Kucinich unveiled a new section of his website dedicated to informing the public of the flaws in voting systems produced by Diebold Inc. The site was updated today with selections from the Diebold employee manual.

The manual reveals that the company not only knew of significant failings with voting machines and ballot counting, but Diebold specifically instructed employees to misrepresent such flaws when questioned.

“Diebold’s employee guidelines demonstrate why we need more transparency in the development and implementation of voting machines so that such failings are not tolerated,” stated Kucinich. “Unfortunately, instead of working to improve voting machine accuracy and security, this document shows that Diebold has attempted to cover up voting machine failings with secrecy and false statements.”

Kucinich’s website dedicated to informing the public about the flaws in Diebold’s software can be found at: http://www.house.gov/kucinich/issues/voting.htm.
