Buyer Lauds Top 25 Corporations Hiring Veterans

Washington, D.C. —  House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Steve Buyer (R-Ind.) held a full committee hearing today on American corporations’ commitment to hiring veterans. The committee examined private sector practices in recruiting, employing and advancing employment opportunities for veterans, while underscoring the skills and abilities today’s military personnel offer. Buyer applauded the companies in attendance stating that they are “setting the standard by which to measure the nation’s business community.”

Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chairman Bilirakis to hold hearing on patient safety

Washington, DC - Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chairman Michael Bilirakis (R-Fla.) released this statement in response to today’s report from the VA’s Office of Inspector General which identified failures in patient safety standards at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center (VAMC). Surgeons at the Haley VAMC implanted an unsterilized cranial plate in a patient in February 2006 and nearly duplicated the mistake a week later.

Subcommittee hears testimony on several pending bills

Washington, DC - Today the Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs held a legislative hearing on seven bills. The purpose of this hearing was to receive testimony from congressional members who sponsored these bills, VA officials, and veterans’ representatives.
