WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Today, Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced that he is returning $27,020 in unused taxpayer money to the U.S. Treasury from his office’s budget. Throughout his career, Congressman Kildee has been a strong proponent of fiscal responsibility. Since first elected to the U.S. Congress in 1977, Congressman Kildee has returned a total of $1,469,536 to the U.S. Treasury – a fact that has earned him a reputation for being one of the most frugal and fiscally responsible members of Congress.

“Like so many families in my district and across the country, we all have been tightening our belts and learning to make do with less. My office is no exception, and I ensure that every dollar my office spends is completely necessary and to the direct benefit of the people of Michigan’s 5th district. Too many American families are struggling to make ends meet - it is my duty to use their money in the most responsible way possible.”

The savings were returned from the operating budget to run Congressman Kildee’s congressional office in Washington, D.C. and his district offices in Bay City, Flint and Saginaw. The operating budget funds district mail, compensation, travel, rent and utilities, and supply and equipment expenditures.
