Kildee Secures Nearly $1.5 Million for Projects in Saginaw

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) has secured $1,469,600 for projects in Saginaw. This funding was secured in the Omnibus Appropriations Act, which is expected to pass the House tomorrow, followed by the Senate and will then be signed into law by the President.

Listed below are the details of the project in Saginaw that received funding at the request of Congressman Kildee:

$500,000 for the Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS), Bus and Bus Facilities Project:
Funding is for the vehicle replacement program for 47 out of 58 revenue vehicles, which have surpassed their FTA useful lives of 7-10 years.  Funds will also be used for the renovation of STARS’ aging Rosa Parks Operations Center; the purchase of automated fare boxes for STARS’ revenue vehicle fleet of buses; and equipment replacement programs including the vehicle wash system and the garage exhaust extraction system.
•    Since FY 2004, Congressman Kildee has secured $2,180,000 for STARS.

“Public transportation provides an important service to our community, and many families rely on our bus system to access services and facilities on a daily basis.  This funding will help ensure that our communities can continue to depend on reliable, public transportation for years to come,” said Congressman Kildee.

$300,000 for the City of Saginaw Police Department:
Funds will go to the Saginaw Police Department’s Neighborhood Passive Observation Digital Surveillance Camera System to help reduce incidences of crime.

$280,000 for the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office, Facilitating Justice Information Sharing:
The Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the State of Michigan’s Region III Homeland Security Subdivision is seeking to consolidate law enforcement and correctional records, data, information and intelligence among Region III’s Sheriff’s agencies and corresponding correctional facilities. This funding will help facilitate this goal and reduce crime.

“These important projects will improve our law enforcement capabilities, help improve public safety and reduce incidences of crime in our communities. I am proud to support these projects and I am thankful for the services they provide to our community,” said Congressman Kildee.

$389,600 for Roadway and Streetscape Improvement in Buena Vista Township:
Funds will be used for improvement to M-46 and S. Outer Drive.  This transportation infrastructure upgrade is necessary to sustain the activities at the Buena Vista Town Center, a project to revitalize a long-blighted mall in the heart of downtown.

“I am very pleased that Congress will soon approve this important request. Well-maintained roads are critical for the public safety and economic prosperity of our area. This funding will help ensure that our streets are in good condition and that visitors and local residents can travel safely in our communities,” said Congressman Kildee.
