Kildee Announces $3 Million Stimulus Grant for Merrill Technologies Group In Saginaw

Grants expected to help MTG retain 12 jobs and create 113 jobs over the next 2 years

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced that Merrill Technologies Group in Saginaw has been awarded a $3 million stimulus grant, helping the company diversify into the manufacture and assembly of large scale, advanced composite wind turbine blades and system components.  The company expects to retain 12 jobs and create 113 jobs over the next two years. This grant was made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which passed the House of Representatives on February 13, 2009 with Congressman Kildee’s strong support.

“America has an opportunity to become a global leader in green energy jobs, and Michigan, with its skilled workforce, is in a prime position to bring those jobs home. This grant will build on the growing green energy sector in Saginaw, boosting our economy and helping to create good jobs,” said Congressman Kildee. “I am proud to have helped bring this grant to Saginaw and I look forward to the continued economic growth the green energy sector will bring to our community.”

The Saginaw-based Merrill Technologies Group (MTG) is a leader in machining, fabricating and systems integration for a wide range of customers.

MTG is seeking to build:

o    four prototype windmills with the next six months
o    twenty-five pilot windmills over the following 18 months, and
o    full production of 100-300 windmills annually thereafter

Clean Energy Advanced Manufacturing grants offer small manufacturing companies, currently located in Michigan, financial assistance to diversify into high-growth, clean energy sectors and invest in advanced manufacturing of renewable energy systems and components. Any for-profit business physically located in Michigan with 500 or fewer full-time or equivalent employees was eligible to apply for these grants.
