Democrats will deliver the change Americans have demanded. We are confronting some of the most severe problems we have faced in generations. They didn't happen overnight and they won't be solved in a day, but together we will work to bring about the progress America needs.

Democrats propose a forward-looking agenda. While it would be easy to blame our problems on the last eight years, we believe it is far more productive to look forward to the next eight as we rebuild and reinvest in America.

In the coming weeks and months, we will be working to revive our economy, protect homeowners and consumers, make America more energy independent, strengthen our national security, and improve health care and educational opportunities.

Democrats will create jobs, put the middle class first and strengthen our economy. We need a plan that not only will create jobs and improve our economy now, but will strengthen our nation over the long term. The plan should be focused on the most important priorities - creating good-paying jobs, helping the middle class and making targeted, responsible investments in our future. And it must demand transparency and accountability to guarantee all taxpayer money is used properly. By focusing on job creation, energy independent and middle-class tax relief, we can reenergize our economy and make it work for everyone.

Democrats will strengthen the middle class so families can reap the benefits of their hard work. By providing tax relief and ensuring equal pay for equal work, we will help families who have been squeezed for years by declining incomes and rising prices. A CLEANER AND GREENER AMERICA

We will invest in clean and renewable energy and energy efficiency - and provide incentives for businesses to invest in the same. We will break our addiction to oil and reinvigorate our manufacturing economy by creating green jobs that cannot be outsourced. We will also protect consumers from volatile energy prices and make our infrastructure and transportation sectors more sustainable.

Democrats will lower costs and increase value so that all Americans can afford quality health care. We are working to improve our health care system - including preventing disease, reducing health disparities and making it more affordable for small businesses to cover their employees. We will protect existing coverage when it is good, improve it when it is not, and guarantee health care for the 46 million Americans, including 9 million children, who have none.

HOMEOWNER PROTECTION AND WALL STREET ACCOUNTABILITY

Democrats will restore confidence in our economy by protecting consumers from Wall Street abuses and protecting homeowners from foreclosure. We will stabilize the housing market and help families keep their homes. The economy cannot recover without a healthy financial system, so we will reform the way Wall Street operates, increasing transparency and accountability to prevent risky bets that threaten the whole system. We will also protect consumers by preventing predatory lending and stabilize credit markets so small businesses can once again safely invest in America and create jobs.
