Congresswoman Chu Issues Statement on California's Disqualification From Race to the Top Grants

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Representative Judy Chu (D-CA) issued the following statement on California's disqualification from receiving Race to the Top education grants:

"I am disappointed that California wasn't one of the finalists for the first round of funding for the Race to the Top grants.

"There is $4 billion at stake and California jumped through a significant amount of federal hoops — including passing a law without charter school accountability and linking teacher performance to student achievement — just to be eligible.

"Before I support the President's new request for another $1.35 billion for Race to the Top, I would like to make sure our largest and most needy states are not left out and that the guidelines for grant funding are revised."
