February 10, 2010

WASHINGTON- U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon (La-03) made the following statement today in support of the President's proposal to triple federal loan guarantees for the construction of new nuclear power plants.  The proposal is included in the President's FY 2011 Budget Blueprint, released last week.  Congressman Melancon has been a vocal supporter of increasing domestic production of all sources of energy, including nuclear power.

"Clean nuclear power offers great potential for creating thousands of high-paying American jobs over the next decade, while providing a stable source of affordable, domestic energy for our homes and businesses over the long-term," said Rep. Melancon. "I am pleased the President's budget supports increasing nuclear energy production. I encourage the Administration to continue embracing all sources of American-made energy that will lead us to greater energy independence and a stronger future for our nation."
