WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Charlie Melancon (LA-03) introduced a Resolution in the House of Representatives honoring the 11 workers who perished on the Deepwater Horizon offshore oil platform accident on April 20th.  The Resolution also extended condolences to their families and recognized the valiant efforts of emergency response workers at the disaster site.

“While we are still working day and night to stop the oil leak that is threatening our coast, we should still take a moment to pause and remember the 11 workers who died in the Deepwater disaster,” said Rep. Melancon. “This resolution honors the sacrifices of those workers and their families, and recognizes the courageous work of the emergency responders who fought the blaze and saved lives that night.

“The 11 who lost their lives in the Deepwater disaster represent thousands of workers – many of them from Louisiana – who brave difficult and sometimes dangerous conditions to provide the domestic energy needed to drive our economy.   Their contribution to our nation’s prosperity will not go unrecognized.”

Congressman Melancon has been leading efforts in Louisiana to coordinate the federal and local response to the oil leak caused by the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil platform three weeks ago.  Congressman Melancon represents in the U.S. Congress the areas of coastal Louisiana most directly affected by the oil leak, including Plaquemines, St. Bernard, Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes.

The Deepwater Horizon platform was located 50 miles off the coast of Louisiana’s Third Congressional District.
