Other Issues - Elections and Voting

Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of American democracy. We must do everything we can to protect the accessibility and integrity of our elections.  Barriers to participation threaten one of our most basic rights.

Representative Waxman is a cosponsor of H.R. 2894, The Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act, which would require that all voting systems used in federal elections produce a voter-verified paper record for all votes cast. He supports legislation that would make election  day a federal holiday and urge private employers to give employees the day off to allow them to vote.  In addition, he has supported legislation that would guarantee provisional balloting, allow same day voter registration in federal elections, and make voting more accessible for those with disabilities and limited English proficiency.

Representative Waxman also strongly supports legislation to reduce the corrosive influence of money in our elections.  Please visit the Campaign Finance page to learn more about his support for efforts to reduce candidates’ dependence on special interests.
