Thursday, October 1, 2009

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Dina Titus announced today that she has secured funding for a number of projects in Southern Nevada through the Fiscal Year 2010 Energy and Water Appropriations Act.  The House-passed conference report includes important funding to boost job creation and provide real solutions to energy and water quality needs with investments in new technologies, scientific research, and conservation efforts.

Titus secured funding for the following projects in Southern Nevada:

  • $2,300,000 for the Bureau of Reclamation to design and implement watershed conservation and protection initiatives for the Las Vegas Wash.
  • $500,000 for the City of Henderson’s Solar Energy Project to install solar panels to power the Kurt R. Segler Water Reclamation Facility.
  • $750,000 for the Desert Research Institute to better understand the current and potential future distribution of water resources within Nevada.
  • $1,200,000 for the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation’s Alternative Energy School of the Future to integrate a photovoltaic system into its K-12 physical plant.

“The funds in this important legislation will provide key investments for worthy projects in Southern Nevada that help us take critical steps to harness our abundant solar energy resources and protect our precious water resources,” Congresswoman Titus said.  “In Nevada and the West, access to a clean, safe, and adequate water supply is vital for economic growth and development.   And by spurring investment in renewable energy, we can create jobs in our community and diversify our economy.”
