Congressman Donnelly Inspects Progress of Burrows Railroad Crossing Improvements

Burrows, IN – Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly visited Burrows to inspect a railroad crossing that is currently being improved after residents voiced safety concerns about two railroad crossings to Congressman Donnelly during a community meeting in June.

After Congressman Donnelly heard their concerns, he contacted Norfolk Southern officials and met with them both in Indiana and in Washington, D.C. to explain the pressing safety concern at each of these tracks.  To assist his conversations with Norfolk Southern officials, Burrows residents and Carroll County leaders put together a video with examples of vehicles crossing the railroad and the potential safety hazards.  Following Congressman Donnelly’s meetings with Norfolk Southern officials, they agreed to improve the two crossings.  Construction began in late August and both crossing improvements are anticipated to be completed by mid-September.

“I’m pleased that the railroad crossings are under construction and will be completed in the near future,” said Donnelly.  “I thank the Burrows community for bringing this pressing safety concern to my attention, and I’m happy that Norfolk Southern agreed to make this right.  With this update, the people of Burrows and those passing through will no longer have to fear that their truck, bus, or other large vehicle will get stuck on the tracks.”
