Congressman Donnelly Joins LaPorte Seniors to Commemorate Social Security's 75th Anniversary

LaPorte, IN – Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly visited the Oak Woods Manor senior community to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Social Security.  On August 14, 1935, 75 years ago, the Social Security Act was signed into law.  During his visit to Oak Woods Manor, Congressman Donnelly spoke with seniors about the importance of Social Security to the economic security of America’s seniors and the need to protect these benefits for our children and grandchildren.

“Social Security is often the most significant form of income for Hoosier seniors,” said Donnelly.  “While celebrating the success of the program over the past 75 years, we also have an obligation to ensure that retirees continue to receive the benefits that they were promised.  Further, we must ensure that Social Security will be there for future generations.  That’s why I strongly oppose risky proposals to privatize Social Security, which is essentially gambling with the very funds that are supposed to guarantee that every senior can live in dignity.”
