Congressman Donnelly Opposes Senate-Proposed Tax on Medical Device Manufacturers

Washington, D.C.—Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly joined 16 of his colleagues in sending a letter to House leadership expressing deep concern over the $4 billion annual tax on medical device manufacturers currently included in the Senate Finance Committee’s proposal for healthcare reform.

“18,500 Hoosiers are proudly employed by a thriving medical device industry, and they want to continue being part of the solution to America’s health needs.  I’ve always said that health reform legislation must not add to our debt, and that means some tough decisions will have to be made about how to pay for it.  I worry, however, that the impact of the proposed tax would burden our communities in particular.”
