Donnelly Authors Letter of Support Urging the President to Declare a Major Disaster for March Flooding and Grant Assistance to Flood-Affected Hoosiers

Washington, D.C. - Today, Indiana’s congressional delegation sent a letter to President Obama supporting the State of Indiana’s April 8th request that he declare a major disaster for the flooding that followed rains beginning on March 8.  Additionally, the delegation letter supports the governor’s request that the president approve FEMA Individual Assistance and assistance from the Small Business Administration for people affected by the floods in Allen, Carroll, DeKalb, Fulton, Jasper, Kosciusko, Lake, LaPorte, Marshall, Noble, Pulaski, White and Whitley counties.

The letter was authored by Donnelly and signed by every member of the Indiana delegation.

“Many of these communities have now been hit by two one-hundred-year floods back to back,” Donnelly said.  “These folks need help again, and we believe they deserve FEMA assistance to get their lives back on track.”

“Despite the hardship and damage caused by this disaster, the Hoosier spirit has persevered.  Communities have pulled together, and neighbors are helping neighbors.  But at a time when these communities are already significantly affected by the current economic downturn and high unemployment, timely federal assistance is needed,” the delegation wrote.
