Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly sent a letter to chief executive officer of Delphi Corporation Rodney O’Neal asking him to reconsider Delphi’s recent decision, pending a bankruptcy judge’s approval, to discontinue retirement life and health insurance benefits to both salaried workers and current retirees.
“We all want to see Delphi succeed so that we can put people back to work and improve our local economy here in Kokomo, but cutting retirement and health benefits during these difficult economic times would be devastating to families in our area,” Donnelly said. “I sent this letter to the CEO of Delphi to urge him to find an alternative plan to restore Delphi to a healthy fiscal position while protecting the promise of health care and retirement benefits.”
Delphi Corporation, a global supplier of mobile electronics and transportation systems, declared bankruptcy in 2005. In order to expedite its emergence from Chapter 11 reorganization, the company recently announced that it would be cutting retirement life and health insurance benefits to both salaried and current retirees.
“I recognize that these are tough economic times and we all must make sacrifices, but these folks have dedicated their lives to this company and deserve the benefits they have been promised.”
Congressman Dan Burton signed onto the letter as well.
