Statement from Congressman Donnelly on Suspension of Mental Health Services at South Bend VA Clinic

Washington, D.C. -  Congressman Donnelly’s office was recently informed that the South Bend VA clinic has been forced to suspend offering mental health services to its veterans after resident psychologist Dr. Michael Sheehan was let go.

“I recently learned that area veterans who receive mental health services at the South Bend VA clinic are not getting them at this time due to a personnel issue that has yet to be resolved,” said Congressman Donnelly.

“I learned today that this gap in care could stretch beyond days and into weeks.  This is unacceptable. Any veteran who needs mental health services should get them and in a timely manner.”

“I’ve asked the VA to inform me as soon as possible as to how they plan on fixing this problem. I am expecting to hear from them by the close of business tomorrow (Friday). In the meantime, I will continue to make myself available to area veterans who may need assistance.”
